MI.MU Gloves are wireless, sensor-enabled gloves for creating and performing music through movement and gesture.
The gloves are a fusion of textiles and electronic sensors. Combined with dedicated gesture detection and mapping software, the MI.MU Gloves offer a new and flexible approach to the control of music and visuals with intuitive human movement. Users experience a dramatic shift in their perceptions of music performance and composition as the technology fades away and what used to be a barrier to entry becomes an enabler of creative freedom.
Orientation Sensors track the orientation of your wrist using an on-board IMU, allowing you to control sound using the roll of your wrist, or by raising your arm or moving it from left to right.
Finger Flex Sensors detect the bend of your fingers, so that each finger movement can be individually mapped to sound controls. Users also have the option of using our advanced algorithms for hand posture recognition.
Buttons for added control, such as setting orientation or turning effects on and off
2.4GHz WiFi for communicating all of your hand movements to the computer
Low latency design allows you to change sounds in an instant
Two-way Communication means that data can be sent to the glove (e.g. to control LED/vibration motors) as well as from the glove to the computer
RGB LEDs on each glove can be programmed by the user to notify the user of changes in the software or to give an indication of positional information through changes in colour
Vibration Motors provide haptic feedback to the glove user and can be programmed directly through our software
The glove textile is optimised for music:
Open fingertips / palms for unrestricted use with instruments and touch screens
Designed for aesthetics and comfort using thin, stretchy, breathable fabrics (robust, hand washable, beautiful)
Our dedicated mapping software allows musicians to connect any gesture or movement that the gloves can recognise to MIDI or OSC messages. These can then be used to control music in third party music software such as Ableton Live or Logic Pro X
Our software can:
- Recognise postures (e.g. fist, open hand, one finger point)
- Detect drum hits and sharp movements
- Map movements to MIDI or OSC messages
- Analyse WiFi connection status
as well as many more features for composing music
Software/hardware requirements (not included):
- Mac OS X 10.9 or later
- Ethernet/thunderbolt port
- Third party music software (e.g. Ableton Live, Logic Pro X, Max)
